Football Tournament entitled Prophet of Peace Fosters Unity
1500th birth Anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)
To commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), a special seven-a-side football tournament was held in Nairobi, bringing together a diverse group of participants in a display of sportsmanship and unity. The event, named in honor of the "Prophet of Peace and Kindness," was co-hosted by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Nairobi Twelver Shia Community (Khoja).
The tournament drew a total of 12 teams, showcasing a broad spectrum of the city's community. Participants included teams from the diplomatic corps, such as the Indonesian Embassy, as well as teams representing local Muslim communities and various Nairobi universities, including St. Paul's Christian University. This diverse turnout highlighted a spirit of camaraderie that extended beyond religious or national lines.
After a series of competitive matches, a team comprised of Iranian residents in Nairobi emerged as the champions.
The closing ceremony underscored the event's broader message. Dr. Ali Gholampour, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kenya, addressed the attendees, speaking about the importance of health from the perspective of the Prophet (PBUH). He emphasized that unity is the most pressing need for the Islamic Ummah (community) and urged that this unity be cultivated in the spirit of the Prophet's teachings and the Holy Quran.
Dr. Jafar Mazahir, the head of the Khoja community, also addressed the attendees, extending his congratulations on the auspicious occasion. He echoed the call for Muslims to embody the exemplary character and principles of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for the prosperity of the Islamic nation. Dr. Mazahir described the tournament as a successful effort to generate enthusiasm and serve as a symbol of unity within the community.
